The Directors


The Group has a highly competent and experienced Board consisting of:

Tom Hayes - MNZM

Tom Hayes, Emeritus Chairman for the  Biosecurity Group has over 50 years’ experience in the fabrication and construction of machinery and equipment and has been involved in developing the revolutionary new "Ethtecs" controlled environment growing system over the last 14 years. His achievements have been recognised by the award of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to industry and in particular the inventing and improving of processes and equipment in New Zealand.

Tom has spent most of his life developing various businesses in the engineering field in New Zealand and previously sold his company, Hayes Engineering Pty Ltd – one of the largest engineering and roll-former manufacturing companies in the Southern Hemisphere – to a major American competitor.  Tom is actively involved in providing his technical and commercial skills and expertise to the Group on a full time basis.

Alan Scott - B.Bus. (Acc.), Fellow Certified Practising Accountants, Fellow Financial Services Institute of Australia, Associate Governance Institute of Australia

Alan Scott, CEO for the Biosecurity Group, has had more than 30 years’ experience in business management. This experience includes international and Australian Funds Management dealing directly with many international investment banks and stockbrokers He has held management roles with of a number of developing companies, including Managing Director and Chairmanship roles with biotechnology companies.

Alan has managed pre-clinical animal models for a wide range of diseases, together with human clinical trials related to cancer, rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis in the US, Europe and Australia, as well as patent grants and USFDA GMP plant accreditation. These roles involved direct contact with many large pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.

Jack Price - Masters Certificate, NCSWP

Jack commenced his professional life in Fiji gaining a ships Masters Licence and working in the shipping industry. Jack then moved to New Zealand and worked as a production manager for a large Japanese owned timber group where technical wood processing technology was of significant importance. Jack moved to Australia and as a production manager of Opti Grow has insituted many technical changes at the Opti Grow plant for the benefit of the company.
